How to Submit

Important Note.
If you are developing a web site and you hope to attract visitors to it using the search engines, then you must try the two tools listed below.

Both the keyword generator from WordTracker and the WebPosition Gold product from FirstPlace Software have free trial versions.

The issue is "After you have created the best-looking web site on the whole internet, what next? When a visitor is looking for the products or services that you offer, how are they going to look? What search engine will they use? What word, words or phrase will they supply to the search engine? Will they find your web site?"

Think carefully about how you would do a search on the internet for your products or services. Try it out. See if you come up with some of your competitors. Then plan how you might get the listing of your site to the top of that search list when someone else does that same search. Help your customers find you.

Four important items you should check ... before you submit your pages to a search engine. Some search engines have human indexers who visit your site and decide whether to include it, other search engines have automated techniques called "spiders", "crawlers" or "bots". In either case they will examine

  • Page Title (for each page on your web site. These show up in the top left-hand corner of your browser when someone loads your web page, but the title is also used by search engines to help with their indexing process.)
  • Page content (this is the text narrative of each page that a visitor to your web site will read, but it is used by the search engines for indexing.)
  • "Keywords" META tag (META tags are an optional part of the HTML code that you write to create a web page. The META tags are not seen by visitors to your site, but they are used by the search engines.)
  • "Description" META tag (META tags are an optional part of the HTML code that you write to create a web page. The META tags are not seen by visitors to your site, but they are used by the search engines.)

When you submit a site manually, you might also be required to suggest an index location using the search engine's index hierarchy, appropriate keywords, a title and a brief description.

There is a Keyword Generator available from WordTracker.com that allows you to select popular keywords for your Title and Meta tags.

Powerful tools can automatically submit your site to the major search engines.

Or you can do it manually. Each of the search engines has a link somewhere on their main page that is called "add URL".  Click on that link and provide the information they ask for about your pages and about your web site.  Here are a few links to the "add URL" pages:

In addition, some sites require that you provide a description and select a category that you want your site listed under. Your submission is evaluated by a real person instead of a computer program to list your site in the search engine index.  Spend some time and think through your description and category carefully before you submit it to these search engines.

If you follow the process above lots of folks using the internet search engines will be able to  find you site.  If you would like WebByPros.com to do the work for you, please send a note to info@webbypros.com .
